Knowledge Raising

KEY ISSUES

The knowledge of the impact of climate change is a phenomenon generally poorly understood and often traditional coping mechanisms are no longer viable due to substantial changes of environmental conditions. Moreover Tanzanian rural communities have no access to updated and easy to understand Climate Change information which is typically managed at higher level. The existing research bodies in the Region such as the NM-AIST University and its climate change research unit do not have field stations and do not collect specific climatic data, nor monitors case studies on vulnerability, impacts and adaptation solutions and normally rely on the literature and available models.

OUR RESPONSE

We are increasing knowledge about climate-related vulnerabilities and impacts and CC adaptation solutions with the following activities:
Set up of a Climate Change Centre of Knowledge located inside the NM-AIST and with a field station in Uwiro Village, for monitoring climate change and setting ad-hoc indicators;
Workshops on CC effects lead by experts of NM-AIST;
• Development of communication and awareness raising initiatives and products for spreading results and best practices both at community and government levels, with drama group, radio program, press release, publications, website and blog.
